VxRail Manager Plugin (4.7.300) is not visible into the vCenter 6.7 U2 – Thumbprint error

VxRail Manager Plugin (4.7.300) is not visible into the vCenter 6.7 U2.

Recently I build my lab with VxRail 4.7.300 and deployed VCF 3.9 however, I noticed VxRail plugin was not loaded into the vCenter. Here is the solution that will help to fix the issue.

The VxRail plugin will allow administrators to administer their VxRail clusters from the vCenter. VxRail Manger plugin will automatically be installed in your vCenter as part of VxRail Build process. Plugin also being used to update the VxRail system, Add new VxRail Nodes, support activities etc..

Below screenshot shows VxRail plugin is missing from vCenter.

Further investigation showed VxRail HTML Client Plugin error as seen in below screenshot.

Here is the error message displayed as part of VxRail HTML Client Plugin.

You can verify VMX logs (vsphere_client_virgo.log), Marvin.logs and identify the issue as well. Mainly it is issue with Server Certificate chain or Thumbprint doesn’t match.

To fix the issue, check if the VxRail Manager SSL Certificate Thumbprint matches with the vCenter MOB SSL Certificate Thumbprint for the VxRail Manager Extension.

To Check the VxRail Manager SSL certificate Thumbprint from MOB:

Open vCenter MOB by accessing https://<vcenter FQDN or IP>/mob

 Click on “Content”

Click on “ExtensionManager”.

On “Extension” click “more…” click “extensionList” –> “com.vmware.vxrail”” extension

Click “extensionList” –> “com.vmware.vxrail”” extension

Click on “Server”.

Capture the serverThumbprint value:

Run the following command from VxRail Manager, and verify the thumbprint information from VxRail manager.

If the thumbprint is not same then you can re-register the VxRail Manager Plugin. In my case the Thumbprint was same yet I re-register the plugin to fix the issue.

Run the register_vxm_plugin.py script to fix certificate and thumbprint issues. The script is attached to the KB 531146.  Download link is provided at the end of this blog page.

After re-registering the plugin, now we can see the VxRail plugin successfully download and loaded into the vCenter.
